Fruits That Help Lower Blood Pressure

According to the National Health Survey (2010) conducted by The Ministry of Health, 23.5% of Singaporeans suffer from high blood pressure, also known as hypertension. Hypertension can lead to severe complications, such as heart disease, stroke, or even kidney failure. Besides leading a healthy lifestyle, eat these fruits to maintain your blood pressure.

  1. Pomegranate

According to researchers at Queen Margaret University in Edingburg, pomegranate juice can help to lower blood pressure. The study had found that majority of the participants saw a fall in their blood pressure, after drinking 500ml daily. Pomegranate is packed with antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties as well, which not only helps to lower blood pressure, but also reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

  1. Bananas

Bananas are rich in potassium, which helps to reduce the ill effects of sodium on your body. Consuming too much sodium can cause your blood pressure to rise, and potassium can help to get rid of the excess sodium.

  1. Berries

Based on a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, berries contain flavonoids that can help to lower blood pressure. Participants who consumed the most strawberries and blueberries had a reduced risk of developing high blood pressure, as compared to those who ate the least amount of berries.

  1. Tomatoes

Tomatoes are rich in lycopene and potassium, both of which help to lower your blood pressure. According to a study done by The University of Adelaide, consuming 25mg or more lycopene daily can help to lower your cholesterol levels, which lowers your risk of high blood pressure.
